Casino And Poker Articles

Baccarat

Part of what makes Baccarat a great game is that it’s so simple. The Player’s decision is limited to deciding what kind of bet to make. From there on it’s in the dealer’s hands and you collect or pay when it’s over.

Blackjack

The object of blackjack is to get a total value of cards as close to 21 as possible without going over and beat the dealer’s total. Numbered cards are worth their face value. Face cards — Kings, Queens and Jacks — are each worth 10. Aces are worth either 1 or 11, whichever is better in the circumstances.

Craps

It’s the noisiest game in the house and only spectator game in the casino that’s worthy of the name. Next to Blackjack it’s got some of the best player odds in the house and only Roulette has more betting options for the player. It’s the one and only Craps.

Hearts

Hearts is an “evasion-type” trick-taking playing card game for four players, although variations can accommodate between three and six players. The game is also known as Black Lady, Black Maria, Black Widow, and Slippery Bitch, though any of these may refer to the similar but differently-scored game Black Lady.

Keno

You would be hard-pressed to find better payouts than Keno in the casino. Now, I’m not saying that Keno is the best game to play, but that it offers some tremendous payout ratios. For instance, a six-spot ticket can pay 1500:1 or greater.

Pai Gow

The original version of Pai Gow used special dominos and dice. It’s said to be a rather complicated game, played slow enough to serve as a social event and is rarely seen in gaming houses outside of Asia.

Red Dog

Red Dog is a card game similar to Acey-Deucey and In-Between. The game is played on a blackjack-sized table with two betting spots — “bet” and “raise” — using a 52-card deck. Only three cards are played per hand. Card suit is not relevant in Red Dog.

Roulette

Roulette is a glamorous, exciting game that’s easy to play. The typical “American” roulette wheel is divided into 38 slots which are numbered 1 to 36 plus 0 and 00. Even numbers are red and odd numbers black. 0 and 00 are green. Some casinos offer the “European Wheel”. This wheel has only 37 slots. There is no 00.

Sicbo

Sic Bo is a dice game of Asian origin. The name means “two dice” or “dice pair” and refers to the some of the higher paying bets that a player can place. In fact the game uses three 6-sided dice and a variety of betting options are available as marked on the Sic Bo table, all based on predictions of what dice combinations the throw will yield.

Slots

Slots is the easiest casino game to learn and play. It’s also one of the most fun and most popular. First you place your bet. Typically you can bet one, two or three coins. Some machines may let you bet up to five or more coins. Depending on the machine, the coins may be $.25, $1, $5 or other values. So if you bet three coins on a $1 machine, your bet is three dollars. Easy.

Poker

Poker is a family of card games that combines gambling, strategy, and skill. All poker variants involve betting as an intrinsic part of play, and determine the winner of each hand according to the combinations of players’ cards, at least some of which remain hidden until the end of the hand. Poker games vary in the number of cards dealt, the number of shared or “community” cards, the number of cards that remain hidden, and the betting procedures.  Also See Poker Strategy Articles

5-Card Stud

5-Card Stud is one of those games that puzzles people. Whenever you mention it people say something like “you mean 7-Card Stud?” or “how’s that different than Draw Poker?” But 5-Card Stud is a game unto itself.

7-Card Stud

When it comes to Poker games, Draw Poker is old school, 5-Card Stud is too rare to speak of, but 7-Card Stud is alive and well. Texas Hold’Em gets all the press and makes a better spectator game, but 7 Stud is the game of choice for the hard-nut players.

Caribbean Stud

Caribbean Poker is a favorite game aboard cruise ships and in South Pacific clubs. It’s an easy game to learn and employs many of the skills of standard 5-card Stud.

Draw Poker

Draw Poker is the basic form of Poker and the place to start when introducing new players to the game. It’s fairly uncommon these days in the casinos, but it is the form from which all other Poker games are derived.

Let It Ride

Let It Ride is a poker-style casino game. It is a variation of 5-card Stud but differs in that players don’t have to beat a dealer’s hand or other players. The goal is merely to compile a winning poker hand, with a minimum of a pair of tens.

Omaha Hi

Omaha Hi is a version of Texas Hold’Em where players are dealt four hole cards instead of two. But there’s a catch: two and only two of the hole cards can be used in making the final hand. Omaha Hi is also known as Omaha Hold’Em or simply Omaha. Also See Omaha Strategy Articles

Omaha Hi-Lo

The poker game Omaha Hi-Lo may go under many different titles – Omaha Holdem 8 or better, Omaha high low split poker, Omaha 08 – but, no matter how it is referred to, it is quickly establishing itself as one of the most popular formats of poker played throughout the world.

Texas Hold’Em

Texas Hold’Em is the darling of pro Poker players, spectators, and the media. It’s an aggressive, flashy, intense and unpredictable game that gets the dollars on the table and changing hands like no other contemporary form of Poker. All that and it looks deceptively simple to play.

Video Poker

Video Poker is what you get if you cross Stud Poker with a slot machine and throw in a few wild cards. It’s fast, almost like playing Stud, and you’ve got a huge range of options. You can choose Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, All American, Joker Poker or a number of other variations. Each game has its own personality and rewards a particular kind of play.
